Welcome to the West Middlesex GP Training Scheme – a vibrant community that’s been nurturing medical talent since 1978! From humble beginnings with just one trainee, we’ve grown into a close-knit extended family of over eighty passionate individuals. We are now the largest scheme in NW London.
Nestled in the the heart of Isleworth, West London, our scheme is not just a training ground; it’s a home where medical careers flourish. Our influence extends far and wide, with training practices spanning from Norwood Green in Hounslow to Hampton Wick in Richmond to Stanwell in North Surrey.

Our primary care rotations are designed to cater to individual preferences and needs. Whether you’re diving into a six-month ST1 or ST2 post in general practice, going less-than-full-time, or exploring Integrated Training Posts (ITPs), there’s a path that suits you. The ITPs mix the best of both worlds, combining General Practice and specialism sessions that cover medical education, dermatology, rheumatology, ENT, O&G, palliative medicine, psychiatry and community & hospital paediatrics. In 2024 we have also introduced four new ITP posts focussing on supporting the health equity agenda – including homeless health, migrant medicine, substance use disorder and health equity innovation.
At the core of our scheme are hospital posts that cover a diverse range of specialties – Emergency Medicine, Paediatrics, Care of the Elderly, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Mental Health. The Chelsea and Westminster Trust oversees most of these.

Our Programme Directors are not just administrators; they’re your advocates. They’re part of the hospital Education Governance Group, a platform where any concerns you might have are discussed directly with leading hospital Consultants who wholeheartedly support our scheme.
Your journey is overseen by a GP Educational Supervisor who plays a pivotal role in your educational experience and the completion of your training e-portfolio. As you step into your final ST3 year, this role seamlessly passes on to your GP Trainer.

As you progress to your final ST3 year, you’ll find yourself in a local training practice attached to the West Middlesex Scheme. Here, our Trainers, who are members of the local Trainers Workshop, collaborate to share innovative education ideas and programmes. It’s not just a conclusion; it’s a seamless transition into a supportive community where your preferences matter.
Express yourself! During your final ST3 year, you get to choose your training practice based on your geographical and personal preferences. We understand the importance of feeling at home, and wherever possible, we strive to appoint Trainees to practices of their choice.
Join us, and you’re not just part of a popular scheme; you’re becoming part of a legacy. Many of our alumni are partners and Trainers in local practices, and guess what? Two of our Programme Directors started right where you are now!
Exciting times await you at West Middlesex GP Training Scheme – where education is not just a process, but a personalised adventure. Welcome aboard!
