Interested in learning more about our teaching and educational offer? You’re in the right place!
At West Mid, we dedicate Thursday afternoons (2:00 PM to 5:00 PM) to protected teaching time for all trainees – held at the Education Centre of West Middlesex Hospital. Most of these sessions are conducted in-person, providing a perfect opportunity to seek advice from the Training Programme Directors, and to learn alongside your peers.
Our academic calendar is structured into four 10-week terms. Outside of these periods, you are expected to fulfil your usual clinical responsibilities (those in a hospital post) or explore broader educational pursuits (those in a GP post). We require a minimum of 75% attendance, monitored via an online registration link for each session. Please be aware that hospital specialties have a requirement to uphold a minimal level of service, which might prevent attendance at every teaching session – for example if you are scheduled for on-call duties. However, if regular attendance is prevented due to clinical commitments, or if you anticipate difficulties in meeting the attendance requirement, please contact the Training Programme Directors so that we can ensure that the hospital department takes steps to address this.
We put considerable effort into creating a comprehensive teaching curriculum that aligns with the RCGP Curriculum, includes mandatory training, and accommodates frequent requests for exam support. Every session is essential for your development as a trainee, and we expect active engagement in all aspects of the curriculum. West Mid values the knowledge and skills each trainee contributes, forming the foundation of our peer-to-peer learning approach. Non-attendance or disengagement will be addressed according to the terms of your employment contract.
You’ll find the latest timetable attached below. Historical timetables can also be accessed at the bottom of this page. Teaching slides and resources, if provided by the speaker, are available in the Educational Content section of our website.
See you all on Thursday afternoon!
